Hyundai Pavilion 2018
Launch 2018 | Service Acoustic Staging
The darkest building in the world. In the midst of the white winter landscape of the 2018 Olympic Games in PyeongChang, South Korea.
Our client, Hyundai, is official partner of the Olympic Games and pioneer in the field of fuel cell technology. For this event, the renowned British Architect Asif Khan has built a pavilion which turns the complex technology into an artistic experience. “From a distance, the structure has the appearance of a window looking into the depths of outer space. The dye Vantablack makes it possible because it absorbs 99% of the light that hits its surface.” says the architect from London.
Inside, there is an exhibition exposing sunlight and drops of water. 25,000 drops per minute are shot through the room by tiny water pumps to form a lake. The atmosphere is energetic – at the same time as quiet as a Zen garden.
Our mission was to transform the Hyundai Pavilion into an immersive experience through acoustic staging. We have installed six individual soundscapes on 24 channels in all rooms. You can hear underwater shots of finest bubbles, powerful sounds based on the Shepard scale – a scale that never stops rising. And a concert grand whose sound passes through the building like a warm wind by means of convolution reverb technology. Each room tells its own story.
“why do birds’ work was highly appreciated. The soundscape completes the space and makes it sophisticated. The pavilion has become a beautiful and elegant place.”

Fantastic fit to the story and produced with a great focus in details. A mesmerising entry that delivered on every level.
Idea, concept, story, understanding of sound, the translation of a complex story into sound – everything harmonizes.”
