Die akustische Inszenierung des Hyundai Pavillon.
The darkest building in the world. Amidst the white winter landscape of the 2018 Olympics in PyeongChang, South Korea.
Our client Hyundai is an official partner of the Olympic Games and a pioneer in the field of fuel cell technology. The renowned British architect Asif Khan built a pavilion for the occasion that allows the complex technology to be experienced in an artistic way.
„From a distance, the structure looks like a window looking into the depths of space. The dye Vantablack makes it possible, as it absorbs 99% of the incident light.“
Inside is an exhibition whose exhibits consist of sunlight and water drops. 25,000 drops per minute are shot through the room by tiny water pumps, forming a lake. The atmosphere is charged with energy and at the same time as quiet as in a Zen garden.

Our assignment was to transform the Hyundai Pavilion into an immersive experience through acoustic staging. We installed 6 individual soundscapes on 24 channels in the rooms. You can hear underwater recordings of finest air bubbles, powerful sounds based on the Shepard scale, a scale that never stops rising. And a concert grand piano, whose sound sweeps through the building like a warm wind thanks to convolution reverb technology. Each room tells its own story.
If you want to immerse yourself in the Pavilion once again, you can do so here ...
